First-ever Conservation School held

At the Conservation School are: Debbie Basham- Scioto SWCD, Wyatt Bates- OFBF State Trustee, Bryan Swords- Scioto County Farm Bureau Board Trustee, Christina Armstrong - Scioto County Farm Bureau Board President, Brad Bergefurd - OSU Extension, Kate Sowards - Scioto SWCD and Scioto County Farm Bureau Board Trustee, and Kim Harless- Senior Organization Director.

The Scioto County Farm Bureau, Scioto SWCD, Farm Credit Mid-America, Ohio State Extension, Northwest FFA, Portsmouth Public Library, Shawnee State Park and SOMC partnered to host the first ever Conservation School Feb. 20, at the Vern Riffe CTC in Scioto County.

Attendees had the choice of Timber Management and Harvest, Invasive Weed Management, Beekeeping 101, Urban Wildlife, Backyard Bluebirds, and Chickens 101 classes to learn more about these aspects of agriculture. Prizes were given out, such as beekeeping starter kits, bluebird houses, henhouse supplies, chainsaw, trail camera and bat boxes.

More than 100 people were in attendance from Jackson-Vinton, Pike, and Scioto Counties.
